Student Attendance

Published by Shem Banbury on

Going to school every day is really important if children are to achieve and succeed. As parents and
caregivers, it is up to you to make sure your child attends school every day, until they are 16.
Under the Education and Training Act 2020, parents and carers of school children up to 16 years
old can be prosecuted if their child is away from school without a good reason.
At Mount Maunganui Intermediate we regularly monitor student attendance. This week we have
sent emails to parents whose children have an attendance rate of less than 75% for term 2. If you
have received this email it is important that you read this email and ensure your child attendance
improves.

If you would like more information about attendance there is an excellent information page on the
Ministry of Education website – https://parents.education.govt.nz/primary-school/your-child-atschool/making-sure-your-child-attends-school-every-day/
