Parent-Teacher Interviews

We offer two dedicated times each year to meet with your child’s teacher face to face:

  • Start of the Year
A chance to meet the teacher, build connections, and go over class expectations and goals for the year.
  • Start of Term 3
A time to receive personalised feedback about your child’s progress in Reading, Writing, and Maths.

Curriculum Expectations

By the end of the school year:

  • Year 7 students are expected to be working at Early Level 4 of the NZ Curriculum.
  • Year 8 students are expected to be working at Level 4 of the NZ Curriculum.

The above levels will change as the new curriculum is rolled out in various learning areas in 2025 and 2026. The new curriculum is based on phases. At Year 7/8 students should be working in Phases 3.

Key Words/Terms You Might See in our Reports

Here’s a quick guide to help you understand the terms used in reports or on the Parent App:

OTJ (Overall Teacher Judgement)
A professional judgement made by teachers based on a range of evidence in Reading, Writing, and Maths. Students are marked according to the following.

Curriculum Levels
Part of the previous curriculum structure, these levels ranged from 1 to 8

  • Phases
A new part of the refreshed curriculum. These 5 phases represent learning progressions across all subject areas. Students at Year 7 and 8 should be working at Phase 3.
  • e-asTTle
Online assessments used in Reading, Writing, and Maths to support teacher judgements. These test are often around 40-50minutes long. Students are given a Curriculum Level and then either ranked as either Beginning, Proficent or Advanced.
e.g. A mark of 4B would indicate a student working at the beginning of Level 4
Your child is able to login to their e-asTTle account and view their tests from this year and previous years. You are also able to view a variety of reports in your child’s profile.
One of the main reports is the Individual Learning Pathway (ILP). This report gives a clear one page summary of a student’s overall score and includes their strengths and gaps, showing you what their next learning steps could be.

  • PAT (Progressive Achievement Tests)
Standardised tests that give a stanine score from 1–9, helping us understand how your child is tracking compared to peers nationally.
