Try-athlon

RANGIWAEA ,KAREWA, and TUHUA and MOTITI Periods 1 and 2

The first race will begin at 9.00am.

MOTURIKI, MATAKANA and MOTUOTAU Periods 3 and 4 Starting time will be based on the finishing time of the first session.

Individual Try-athlon: Run 2 1/2 Laps / Cycle 3 Laps / Swim 2 Lengths 

Team Try-athlon: Run 4 1/2 Laps / Cycle 4 Laps / Swim 4 Lengths

Teams can be two or three (maximum) people. 
Students can compete as an individual and then as a team member.  
There will be two races in each section – Yr 7 girls and boys will go together, then Yr 8 girls and boys together.  In the team event, you may have mixed gender teams as well as mixed year level, however if you have a year 8 in your team, you must race in the year 8 category.  The individuals will race first and then the teams.

 
Procedure:
RANGIWAEA, KAREWA, TUHUA AND MOTITI
students are to take bikes to stands on the field at the start of day please (there will be signs out for boys, girls, teams ) and they need to return to them to the bike bay area at the start of interval (the bike stands will not be there but bikes can be left in these areas). 

 
MOTURIKI, MATAKANA AND MOTUOTAU take bikes over to stands on the field at the start of interval and will return their bikes to the bike stand areas during lunchtime.

Students are to assembleUNDER THE DOME AT THE TURF (there will be house flags there) before the start of their event. 

Competitors:

  • All competitors must wear their school P.E gear shorts or swimming gear plus  (P.E Shirt, or house coloured shirt)

  • All cyclists must wear a helmet and must also wear footwear (sandals or shoes). Crocs are okay for on the bike. They might be quite useful. 

  • No competitor is allowed to run the cycle leg (They need to be organised and borrow another person’s bike)

  • Runners can wear footwear though this is not compulsory (please note runners will run 2 ½ laps or 4 ½ laps, and will start in front of the TURF). The run will now go around the back of the turf, instead of the rugby fields.

  • Swimmers run around the outside of the turf area in a clockwise direction (between the fitness trail and turf fence) and then enter the pool from the shallow end, swim up the left hand side of the pool,  back down right hand side, and run to the finish line.

  • All students will require sunblock please. 

  • Once finished competing, students sit in an area by the finish line.  They will be moved to the middle of the soccer pitch when each group has finished to watch the remaining races (Gazebos may be used). Students who are also competing in a team will go back to the TURF UNDER THE DOME for their next race.

House Points. House points will be allocated to all students who participate in the Try-athlon. 
# 1 Point is allocated to each competitor who takes part in the team event for the section(s) they do. ie:one person doing two sections would earn two points.

# 3 Points for individual competitors.
Students can enter in both races (maximum points for participation is 5 points) These will be counted at the beginning of each race. Please ensure students are in the correct place at the beginning, so they are included in the points system.
