Attendance

Attendance at Mount Maunganui Intermediate

At Mount Maunganui Intermediate, the wellbeing of our tamariki is at the heart of everything we do.

We believe that every day at school is an opportunity for your child to strengthen friendships, build resilience, and find their place in our school whānau. Attendance is more than just a number; it is a vital part of a child’s sense of belonging and their path to a bright future.

    Why Every Day Matters

Good attendance isn’t just about grades—it’s about the whole child. Consistent time at school:

Strengthens Connections: Helps students make and maintain lasting friendships.

Ignites Passion: Encourages participation in our wide range of sports, arts, and cultural activities.

Builds Confidence: Develops independence, resilience, and a sense of routine.

Ensures Safety: Creates a secure environment where every child feels seen and valued.

    Our Shared Commitment

Attendance is a team effort. Here is how we work together to support our tamariki:

    How do we measure Attendance?

To keep you informed, we send home an attendance letter in Week 4 and Week 8 of each term via Edge. We follow the Stepped Attendance Response (STAR) to ensure every student gets the right level of support at the right time.

    Our Response Framework:

0–4 Days Absent: Great momentum! No action required.

5–9 Days Absent: A friendly check-in. Your homeroom teacher will send an email or call to see how we can help.

10–14 Days Absent: Let’s talk. A face-to-face meeting with Senior Leadership (SLT) to create a support plan.

15+ Days Absent: Intensive support. We will work with you and external agencies to remove any barriers to learning.
